On top of that, the Fog will be showing its most popular videos from its FogTV YouTube channel on their big screen TVs! And did we mention there will be LOTS of rugby players to hang out with?

Come on out, unwind after a hard work week, and enjoy a beer with us!

Fog vs. Aptos - February 2

The Fog opened their NCRFU Division III 2008 men’s season against the Aptos Beach Dogs on a Saturday defined by temperatures in the high 40’s, moderate winds and light rain.

Amidst the harsh weather and muddy pitch, the Fog brought its A game among their players, coaches and supporters in what proved to be a very engaging match, resulting in a final score of Aptos 18, Fog 5.

Shortly after, the Fog B Side, who braced the elements for hours before, played in the seconds match and prevailed with a hard-fought win.

Silverhawks vs. Fog - January 26

The San Francisco Fog’s B Side squared off against the San Jose Silverhawks on Saturday, January 26, a day of 50 degree temperatures and light drizzle.

In the words of Fog Coach Ken Bousfield, “A great day for rugby was had by all yesterday. The Silverhawks a lot the Fog a few. Many thanks to the Silverhawks in braving the storms and coming out to play. There are always lessons to be learned during all games win, lose or draw. Awesome player turnout!!! Fantastic commitment from all who played to the final whistle.”

Women's Rugby 101 Clinic - January 26

The San Francisco Fog will be hosting a Women’s Rugby 101 Clinic on Saturday, January 26, 2008.

Come out and learn the sport that’s known as a hooligan’s game played by gentlemen—and ladies too! The Fog’s Rugby 101 clinic provides an excellent opportunity for newcomers to discover rugby and learn more about one of the most dynamic sports clubs in the Bay Area. At the end of the clinic, participants will get a chance to apply their newfound knowledge of rucks, mauls, scrums, tries and line-outs in a friendly scrimmage.

Make sure to get to the clinic by 10am to give yourself some time to suit up and meet our players. The Rugby 101 Clinic will be from 11am to 1pm at Treasure Island on the corner of Avenue H & 9th Street.

Also make sure to bring the following with you to our clinic:

  • Rugby boots (soccer/baseball cleats are OK)
  • Mouthguard
  • Knee-high socks
  • Shorts
  • Sunscreen
  • Water
  • Lots of enthusiasm

Want to get a headstart? More information about rugby — including our Rookie Primer and an equipment (kit) guide — can be found on the Rugby 101 page.

Vallejo vs. Fog - January 19

The Fog Men’s side hosted a friendly match against Vallejo, a newly-formed rugby club in the Bay Area, on Saturday, January 19, 2008. Both sides played to their strengths and fought hard, with the Fog ultimately losing by a score of 33-17.

Baracus vs. Fog - January 12

The Fog Men’s side hosted a friendly match against the BA Baracus Rugby Club on Saturday, January 12, 2007. The Bay Area Baracus served as the opposing side in the Fog’s first ever match on April 7, 2001 and prevailed 49-0.

Seven years later, the Fog showed that they have come a long way, playing with grit, determination, and tenacity that surprised their opponents, who these days are a Division II powerhouse and past Division III Northern California Champions. Though the Fog wound up on the losing end, they held the Baracus to only two tries for a final score of 12-0.

Bingham Stein - December 15

The San Francisco Fog hosted the seventh annual Bingham Stein game between the San Francisco Fog Men’s Side and the Redding/Shasta Highlanders on Saturday, December 15, 2007.

The Bingham Stein is a symbol of the first meeting between the two teams, which took place a few weeks after September 11, 2001. Proposing that that match be played in honor of Mark Bingham, who lost his life aboard United flight 93, the Highlanders furnished a commemorative beer stein that each year goes home with the winner.

Though Redding was victorious in the first few contests, lately the Fog has been racking up its share of wins. This time, the Fog prevailed 27-18, retaining the Stein for the second year in a row.

San Francisco Fog hits sunny San Diego

SF Fog Web Story Pics - 12.8.07

On Saturday, December 8, the Fog traveled many hours down to sunny San Diego to contest against the Los Angeles Rebellion and the San Diego Armada, both members of IGRAB (the International Gay Rugby Association & Board). Besides being a great day full of rugby, it was a pivotal moment for our new recruits, who got a real taste of what it’s like to be part of the Fog. Our thanks to all those who supported the Fog in this event!

Photos of the tournament can be found in our Fog Picture Galleries.

Fog vs. Berkeley RFC - November 17

Both the Fog Men and the Fog B Side squared off against our NCRFU rivals Berkeley RFC this past Saturday. The Fog Men played with tremendous effort, albeit with a final score of Berkeley’s four tries to the Fog Men’s one. The Fog B Side’s play was amazing to behold, as they continued to show improved understanding of the game and better technique, scoring two superb tries against the same Berkeley squad.
