All about Rugby 101

Interested in learning the basics of rugby in a fun atmosphere? Join us on June 20th on Treasure Island for a day of rugby instruction, fun and a BBQ with beer and great food and folks.

No experience is necessary.
All shapes and sizes welcome.
Men and women welcome.

We will cover the following topics in our clinic:

rugby laws
tossing and catching the ball
tackling with less effort
forming rucks and mauls
lining out
scrums
singing rugby songs

Basic Schedule

The clinic begins promptly at 11am. There will be several stations on the pitch. Each station covers a topic and will have one or two coaches for that area. Players will be broken up into cohorts which will go from station to station as a group. Some Fog players will be participate as well to help instruct.

What to bring

Shorts/t-shirt to play in
Extra clothes to change into
Warm clothes – it can get cold in the afternoon on TI
Rugby cleats or sturdy athletic shoes
Mouthguard – be sure it’s molded properly before you arrive
Gatorade / Protein bars – we will have water available
A blanket / chair to sit on
A desire to have fun and learn a new sport in a non-threatening atmosphere

What to do prior to June 20

Read the Rookie Primer – this will jump start your understanding
Try to watch rugby on television – or come to Rugby School House at Truck on Wednesdays where rugby is shown on the big screen (see Fog homepage for more information)
Stretch in the days leading up to the clinic
Hydrate – Don’t drink crazy amounts of alcohol the night prior – we’ll make it up to you with beer Saturday afternoon
